Fantastic Invention!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I currently own the A502 model and recently bought the L2 model. I bought the A502 in 2005 and used it infrequently, but loved using it as a fun experiment. As an organic chemistry and calculus student it did not work due to the 5 x 8 capture size. I used the A502 primarily for doodling and memos. The A502 worked as advertised. Recently I started a new job that required me to obtain research material and information from multiple sources (i.e. books, journals, etc) and my style is to take notes with pen and paper and then transcribe them to MS Word.
I chose to give the L2 model a try as I had some success using the A502 and after reading mixed reviews on amazon, I chose to take a chance and bought it through amazon. I have to say that I am highly satisfied with the product. I do not care about the text conversion software as I can type 90 wpm; so this tool is not a factor for me and I will not be purchasing the software after the 30 day trial is over. I have been using the tablet for a few days and it works as advertised. I can use it effectively and efficiently with MS Onenote 2007 and use it simultaneously with the pc and paper. There are some minor glitches (i.e. screen capture resolution) that I can overlook and not a factor in the overall performance of the product. The fact that I can use any paper and buy ink refills for $1.79 from staples is remarkable. I can e-mail my notes instantly to anywhere in the world in pdf format and receive instant feedback with small to no effort. I feel its better than alternatives like the bulky Glide Fusion pen which requires you to buy specialized notebooks at approximately $10 per book with 100 or so pages.
I would recomend this product to college and high school students, especially in Mathematics and Sciences as you can perform home work problems on plain paper, download the data to your pc or mac, convert the digital page to pdf, and submit them via e-mail in pdf format to your professors and teachers for review, help and corrections. All in a matter of seconds. There are many ways you can make this product work for you.
Listed below are my opinions on some of the negative comments about this product:
1. Lack of technology experience will get you frustrated. But, there are youtube videos that can help you out if you give this product a chance.
2. Lack of product research prior to purchasing. Figure out why you want and need to buy this product. Technology is supposed to make us more efficient and productive, not the other way. Get my point!!
3. Aesthetics and portability. You can pretty it up with skins and it fits easily in a computer bookbag with a protective foam sleeve.
4. Poor product desing and durability. Treating this product roughly will cause it to break or malfunction (its not a metal pad and is breakable if you are rough with it)
5. Text conversion software (just like speech recognition software) is light years away as many of us have different writing styles and should not be a major factor in purchasing this product. MS Office has handwriting recognition software is a cheaper alternative that gives you the same resuls using an attached tablet for less than half the cost of the L2.
Very Pleased With This Unit

I absolutely like this thing. I waited 4 months to write a review. I wanted to see how it held up under daily stresses. Well, it has stood the test of time. Before buying it, I found the Acecad website, called the contact phone number, and spoke to a fantastic guy who answered all my questions quite clearly. It sounded so too excellent, but has honestly lived up to all claims. The fact it copies my pen strokes so accurately still blows my mind to this very day. The feature that allows me to so easily ship the pages to OneNote rocks. I’m a therapist and have had curious clients get one based on seeing how well it worked for me. I rarely take the time to write reviews, but this thing has more than earned my kudos!
Other thoughts: get the portfolio if you travel.
Not worth it
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I could never get the captured image to start capturing when I first started writing. Tried several methods of press and hold, double tap, hover, etc. to make sure it knew where to start. It helped, but I had no confidence after playing with it for an hour that it would reliably capture what I wrote adequately for me to read the image. What it did capture, was very accurate and a excellent image. It was really just getting it to start after lifting the pen, and especially after moving to the opposite side, or after pausing for a while. Further, for the same hassle of transferring the files, I figure I could write notes with a $0.50 pen and $2 pad of paper and scan it to myself just as easily and probably quicker.
More gadget than tool

Wanted one of these for a while. Finally got it – it more or less works, the pad is bulky and needs protection. The software is clunky. The plastic ‘tablet’ tip came apart in the pen when I tried to remove it. Could be really clean – with the right handwriting & indexing package. Because the tablet is large and the tablet interface while plugged in works in absolute mode – its a small clunky for use as a mouse, lacks the pressure resolution to be useful as an artistic tool. It’s clean, just not $120ish clean.
Wish I’d tried one of the cheaper pen only versions.
LIKE IT!

I am a therapist and I take a lot of notes. If I am doing home care then I have to have the patient or a family member sign for attendance. This thing is fabulous and now I do not have to go make copies and maintain tons of paper.
Works as advertised
